The aircraft dived to ground level to avoid flak and was hit by machine gun fire from roof tops. The rear gunner was hit and the mid upper put out of action. Both mid upper and front gunners shot up two trains on return journey. Special mention to the Flight Engineer who carried out first aid on the rear gunner. The wounded rear gunner showed great courage and assisted himself out of the aircraft in spite of his injuries. He was immediately removed to Salisbury Hospital where he died the next day. Aircraft was damaged by a sundry of bullet holes, and starboard inner engine was hit, the main spar tail plane and the Lorenz equipment. Landed at Boscombe Down.
