Hit by flak in target area holing mid upper turret. Hit by incendiaries just as our bombs fell which started fires in both wings and holed port inner engine which burned until returned to base. Starboard wing fire lasted 15 minutes, but port wing burned until returned to base. Captain gave order to standby to bale out. Called up X2 from our squadron which was flying alongside and decided to try and get home, which was completed successfully. Pilot awarded immediate DFC.
